Does your soul yearn to hunt big game in the wilderness? Do you want to be challenged, inspired, and brought closer to your family through adventures in the wild? In A Wilderness Filled Soul, you’ll read how hunting forged a bond between the author and his family as they chased elk, deer, and moose in the Colorado Rockies. You’ll discover themes that will resonate deep within your soul: overcoming adversity, determination, tenacity, and being awed by God’s creation. They’re stories of racing a midnight blizzard to pack an elk off a mountain and the intensity of staring a mature bull in the eye with his antlers mere inches away. How hunting helped a young boy defeat a deadly disease or a soldier’s emotional hunt before deploying to war-torn Afghanistan. Stories both bizarre and hilarious, like when a dead bull nearly gored the author to death. A dozen of the book’s stories have been published in hunting magazines such as Bowhunter, Bugle, Successful Hunter, and The Mule Deer Foundation Magazine.
Do you long to paddle the wilderness in search of a grand adventure? Within these pages, you’ll discover the elements of a true adventure: exploration, risk, grit, physical and mental challenges, fear, humor, and a dash of the unknown. Paddle with Steve as he is awed by magnificent glaciers, fights through spring snowstorms, and battles screaming winds in his solo canoe. You’ll feel his fear at the possibility of losing his wife and daughter in frigid Alaskan waters and the intensity of a grizzly bear striding straight toward him and his children from 30 yards away. You’ll chuckle at his mishaps, like nearly being swept backward into a foaming river without paddles and trying to save a grasshopper from a duct tape death. And if you’re an angler, the fishing stories will cause your pulse to race as if a behemoth smallmouth or marauding pike has just smashed your lure. Spectacular sunsets, freshly caught walleye sizzling over a campfire, the Northern Lights, howling wolves, violent hailstorms, roaring whitecaps, and smoking cigars in a torrential downpour – you’ll experience all of it in Wilderness Waters.

Steve’s spent most of his life pursuing three passions: the military, wilderness, and serving teenage boys. He served his country for nearly 26 years as an Army Infantryman, Apache helicopter pilot and Public Affairs Officer, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
His love for wilderness spans from big-game hunting in the Rockies to paddling remote wilderness lakes, spending more than fifty days on the water each year.
